The film, which will premiere 20 years after the original hit theaters in 1996, is officially titled Independence Day: Resurgence and will see the return of original cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox and Judd Hirsch. Joining the cast are Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

You can read the film’s official description, thanks to FOX, below:

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

At the session, Emmerich explained the new title saying, “We call [the events of the original movie] in the film the War of ’96. It’s like a post-World generation that’s unified, and that’s amazing to see a world come together with a common enemy. That’s a resurgence.”
