Liam Hemsworth Is Set To Take Over Lead Role in ‘The Witcher’

Liam Hemsworth, best known for his role in The Hunger Games franchise, is replacing Henry Cavill in The Witcher. The news came over the weekend when Cavill shared the update in a post on Instagram. But don’t worry, we’ll still have one more season with Cavill before his exit.

While congratulating Hemsworth for taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia in the hit Netflix fantasy series, Cavill also confirmed that he’ll be stepping away from the role for The Witcher Season 4.

“Some news to share from The Continent. My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures. And alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” Cavill posted. “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Hemsworth also made a post on his Instagram, saying, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt. And I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”

“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill. But I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”Hemsworth added.

Why Is Henry Cavill Leaving The Witcher?

After playing the character for the first three seasons, Cavill is believed to be stepping away in order to focus on his upcoming films, including a sequel to his 2013 Superman movie, Man of Steel. He’s also rumored to have joined the cast of the upcoming Highlander remake.

Whatever the reason may be for Cavill’s exit, we’ll keep you posted on The Witcher Season 4 as well as Henry Cavill’s upcoming film projects. And of course, let’s not forget, we still have The Witcher Season 3 coming next summer!
