‘Room’ Teaser Trailer Is Equal Parts Chilling and Hopeful

A mother’s love knows no bounds, even in the most dire of situations, in the teaser trailer for the upcoming thriller Room.

The film is based on Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel, Room, which tells the story of a 5-year-old boy named Jack ( Jacob Tremblay,) who, along with his mother (Brie Larson), is held captive in a small room. Jack knows nothing of the world outside of “Room”, as he affectionately calls it, but due to the love and devotion of his mother, is never alerted to anything being amiss about his situation.

In the teaser, we see the lengths that Jack’s mother goes to in order to keep her child in the dark about the horrible truth behind their captivity. They play, they sing, they go over an escape plan…As terrible as everything seems in the beginning, the teaser implies that the two do make it out eventually, having to get re-adjusted (or introduced, in Jack’s case) to the real world.

The film stars Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Joan Allen and William H. Macy.

Room will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It will then open in New York and Los Angeles on Oct. 16 and nationwide on Nov. 6.
