The Marvels

Release Date: In theaters nationwide on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: In The Marvels, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) is an astronaut working for S.A.B.E.R. and Nick Fury. While investigating a wormhole linked to the Kree, Monica’s powers become entangled with Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and Ms. Marvel, Kamala Kahn (Iman Vellani). The trio will have to team up to defeat a new enemy while trying to figure out why they are swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.

What to Watch For: We met Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in the TV series WandaVision, and we watched the origins of Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in the TV series of the same name.

Word on the Street: This is Samuel L. Jackson’s 15 MCU project appearance. He started as Nick Fury in the film that started it all, Iron Man (2008).

My Take: I loved Iman Vellani in the Ms. Marvel TV series, so I look forward to seeing her on the big screen.

The Holdovers

The Holdovers   (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: The Holdovers is about Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti), a history teacher at a remote prep school known for being demanding and cranky. The last thing he wants to do is babysit a student named Angus (Dominic Sessa), who has no place to go during the holidays, but he has no choice. It’s going to be a holiday that both won’t forget.

What to Watch For: The film is directed by Alexander Payne, the two-time Academy Award winner (The Descendants (2012), Sideways (2005)).

Word on the Street: The film was nominated for the People’s Choice Award at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

My Take: One of my all-time favorite actors, Carrie Preston, has a role in the film.

Journey to Bethlehem

Journey to Bethlehem   (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: Journey to Bethlehem is a musical retelling of the greatest story ever told, of Mary (Fiona Palomo) and Joseph (Milo Manheim) looking for a place to stay while they await the baby’s birth, a baby named Jesus.

What to Watch For: Oscar and Tony nominee Antonio Banderas portrays King Herod.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Adam Anders, known for his Grammy-nominated work on the TV series Glee.

My Take: When the trailer was released for the film, it got over 12 million views.

Dream Scenario

Dream Scenario   (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: In Dream Scenario, Paul (Nicolas Cage) is a family man who teaches at a local college. Nothing is unusual until Paul appears in people’s dreams, usually just in the background. He becomes an overnight celebrity and enjoys the attention until his appearance in the dreams becomes more pronounced, sometimes violent and disturbing. Paul’s newfound fame has now become a burden. The question is, how to stop his appearances in everyone’s dreams?

What to Watch For: The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film is currently at an outstanding 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with over 50 film critic reviews.

My Take: Any film Nic Cage is in is one that I am going to see.

Your Lucky Day

Your Lucky Day   (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: Your Lucky Day starts with a dispute over a winning lottery ticket that turns deadly in a small convenience store and becomes a hostage situation. The killer and the hostages must decide exactly how far they will go for a 156 million dollar payday.

What to Watch For: The film stars the late Angus Cloud, who became an overnight sensation as Fezco in the TV series Euphoria.

Word on the Street: This is a remake of the 2010 short film of the same name starring Rider Strong.

My Take: The film premiered at the 2023 Fantastic Fest.

Walden

Walden   (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Summary: The movie Walden focuses on Walden Dean (Emile Hirsch), a court stenographer who witnesses the flaws of the justice system. Diagnosed with a terminal illness, Walden decides to become judge and executioner of the criminals that were set free.

What to Watch For: The movie is from filmmaker Mick Davis, known for his films Haunting Charles Manson (2014), The Poison Child (2019) and Father Christmas is Back (2021).

Word on the Street: The cast includes Shane West, David Keith, Steve Coulter, Kelli Garner, Tania Raymonde, and Luke Davis.

My Take: I loved Emile Hirsch in the 2007 film Into the Wild.
