The last few years have been good to Dan Levy, the creator and star of Schitt’s Creek. After an impressive sweep at the 2020 Emmys, Schitt’s Creek became the first comedy to win every major award. So what’s next for Dan Levy? He’s just signed a new deal with Netflix.
The Netflix Deal
So here’s what we know about the deal. It will cover both movies and TV series. And the TV portion will begin in July of next year. As Levy’s three-year overall deal with ABC Signature needs to come to an end first.
The film portion of the deal will have him starting work immediately on an untitled romantic comedy. For this project, he’ll star, write, produce and direct. Alongside Levy will be Stacey Snider and Kate Fenske of Sister, the independent production and development company founded by Elisabeth Murdoch, Stacey Snider, and Jane Featherstone.
“Netflix offered Schitt’s Creek a second home at just the right time and opened the doors to a whole new audience for us,” Dan Levy said, commenting on the new Netflix deal. “Watching the show thrive there has only enhanced my excitement about continuing to tell specific, meaningful stories with them in both tv and feature film. A full circle moment.”
Netflix’s head of Global Film, Scott Stuber, and Head of Global Series, together praised Levy’s work, saying, “Dan Levy is an incredible all-around creative talent, who thoughtfully approaches every story with a meaningful perspective. His work on ‘Schitt’s Creek’ charmed audiences around the world and we’re thrilled to partner and create new films and shows with Dan.”
No additional details are available at this time in regards to the new projects. But it’s safe to say, if Dan Levy is behind it, Schitt’s Creeks fans will be happy! We’ll keep you posted as additional details surface.
