John Felix Anthony Cena was born in West Newbury, Massachusetts, on April 23, 1977. His mother is Carol Lupien, and his father is John Cena Sr. He is the second of five siblings, all of whom are boys.

Cena attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence but eventually transferred to Cushing Academy in Ashburnham. Upon graduating, Cena attended Springfield College in Massachusetts. He played on the football team as an NCAA Division III All-American center. His jersey number was 54, which fans will recognize as a number often featured in Cena’s WWE merchandise.

John Cena has been married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth Huberdeau. They were married in 2009 and divorced in 2012.

After the divorce, Cena started dating Nikki Bella, a fellow WWE star. At WrestleMania 33, Cena proposed to Nikki, to the delight of professional wrestling fans. The wedding didn’t push through though, as the two WWE superstars broke up after being together for six years.

Cena is now married to Shay Shariatzadeh, an Iranian engineer. They met in Vancouver while Cena was filming Playing with Fire. The couple had a private civil wedding in 2020 in Tampa and then hosted a much larger ceremony in 2022 in Vancouver.
