New Movies Coming Out: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The new movies coming out this week include a massive blockbuster and a few Christmas-themed films. Additionally, there are a couple of comedies and a horror film to fill out the list as well. So there’s truly something for every movie-goer.

Marvel fans will be headed to the theaters for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to see how they handle the death of King T’Challa, after the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman. We also have a musical retelling of the famous Christmas story with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, a Christmas romance with Lindsay Lohan, and a comedy starring Dustin Hoffman and his son Jake.

Here is the full rundown of new movies coming out this week in theaters, as well as those releasing on the major streaming platforms.

New Movies Coming Out This Week: November 7, 2022 – November 13, 2022

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever  (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, November 11, 2022.

Summary: In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the nation is in mourning after the death of King T’Challa. Queen Ramonda must guide her country to continue to strive to uphold their way of life and defend it from all enemies, even without their beloved leader.

What to Watch For: This would have possibly been the final film that the late Chadwick Boseman would have played as T’Challa because his contract would have been up after this film. We will never know what Marvel planned to do with the film series and the character of Black Panther.

Word on the Street: Much of the film takes place underwater, with the cast having to take swimming and breath-holding lessons.

My Take: I love the fact that the production designer of the film, Hannah Beachler, has cited legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby as one of the influences on the look of the film.

Spirited  (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres on Friday, November 11, 2022, and on Apple TV+ Friday, November 18, 2022.

Summary: Spirited is a modern-day musical retelling of Dickens’s legendary Christmas story, with a miserable, miserly man (Ryan Reynolds) being visited on Christmas Eve by three ghosts to show his past, present, and future.

What to Watch For: The cast includes Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Tracy Morgan, and Rose Byrne.

Word on the Street: Director Sean Anders is known for Instant Family (2018) and Daddy’s Home 2 (2017).

My Take: I understand that the lead actors worked with the songwriters to tailor the songs to their musical and comedic talents.

Sam and Kate

Sam & Kate  (2022)

Rating: R

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, November 11, 2022.

Summary: Sam & Kate is about Sam (Jake Hoffman), who has returned to his small hometown to care for his ailing but larger-than-life father, Bill (Dustin Hoffman). While home, Sam falls for a local woman named Kate (Schuyler Fisk). Just when things seem to be going great, Bill starts dating Kate’s mom, Tina (Sissy Spacek), and things will never be the same again.

What to Watch For: Sissy Spacek is the real-life mother of Schuyler Fisk. And Jake is the real-life son of Dustin Hoffman.

Word on the Street: Filmmaker Darren Le Gallo is making his feature film directorial debut.

My Take: I love that Henry Thomas is also in the film. Thomas played Sissy’s son in his feature film debut, Raggedy Man (1981).

Falling For Christmas  (2022)

Rating: N/A

Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

Summary: In Falling For Christmas, it’s a few days before Christmas. And a spoiled hotel heiress (Lindsay Lohan) has a skiing accident and is diagnosed with amnesia. She finds herself in the care of a handsome owner (Chord Overstreet) of a small skiing lodge and his daughter. Love might just catch our heiress, but what happens when she gets her memory back?

What to Watch For: Lindsey Lohan covers ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ in the film. Lohan previously performed the song in the legendary film Mean Girls (2004).

Word on the Street: This is the first feature film that Lindsey Lohan has made in three years.

My Take: Unlike a lot of Christmas-themed movies, which are usually shot in the summer, this one was filmed during the month of December back in 2021.

Bar Fight

Bar Fight!  (2022)

Rating: N/A

So they do what is expected, have a contest to determine who gets custody of the watering hole they both love. This will be a battle for the ages!

What to Watch For: This is the feature-film directorial debut of Jim Mahoney, best known for his portrayal of the character named Brosk in the TV series The Orville.

Word on the Street: Mahoney is also a writer. And his screenplay for the 2019 film Klaus was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2020 Academy Awards.

My Take: One of my favorite actors, Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), plays Nina’s best friend in the film.

The Friendship Game

What to Watch For: The film was initially cast with Bella Thorne in the lead. But Peyton List replaced her before filming commenced.

Word on the Street: Besides Peyton List, the cast includes Brendan Meyer, Kelcey Mawema, and Kaitlyn Santa Juana.

My Take: Hey, Halloween was just a few weeks ago, so we are all still in the mood for another horror film.
