‘Wonder Woman 3’ Is Reportedly Cancelled By DC Studios

Wonder Woman 3

It’s bad news for Wonder Woman fans this morning. Wonder Woman 3 is not expected to move forward at this time. This news is coming from multiple sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, which would have been the third film in the franchise, was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins. And despite prior news on Wonder Woman 3 seeming to be all positive, sources are now saying that the current incarnation of the project is “considered dead.”

Changes Likely Due to New 10-Year DC Studios Plan

This news is coming after some significant shifts this year at Warner Brothers and DC Studios. Just over a month ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran stepped into the roles of co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios. And Gunn was also reported to be working on a 10-year plan for the studio, with Safran revealing that DC would focus on telling a single story across multiple movies. This approach is similar to how the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) approaches its films.

“The opportunity to make DC as great as it can be and as it should be. That is the reason why I’m doing this job. Because I know that Peter and I can do that,” Gunn has also stated. “We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to map out that eight to 10-year plan of what it’s going to look like in theatre, in TV, in animation, across the board for these characters.”

Furthermore, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are said to have told Patty Jenkins that Wonder Woman 3 currently doesn’t fit in with the latest DC plans as things stand presently.

Sources also admitted plans are still unfolding, and a decision is yet to be made about the next steps. Jenkins, who directed the first two movies, had only recently submitted her treatment for the third flick, which she co-wrote with Geoff Johns.
