Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: Plane is about Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler), an airline pilot who always puts his passengers first. When his plane encounters horrible storms, Brodie is forced to land the plane in a foreign country controlled by a powerful warlord. Brodie’s only ally to save his passengers is a convicted murderer (Mike Colter).

What to Watch For: Mike Colter is best known for his title role in the TV series Luke Cage.

Word on the Street: Director Jean-Francois Richet won the César Award (France’s Academy Awards) for his 2008 films Mesrine: Killer Instinct and Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1.

My Take: Who doesn’t want to see King Leonidas and Luke Cage fighting bad guys in the jungle?

House Party

House Party  (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: House Party takes place when two friends (Jacob Latimore, Tosin Cole), on a weekend when their parents are away, find themselves cleaning a house owned by LeBron James, they decide to host the party to end all parties.

What to Watch For: The film is a remake of the 1990 film House Party, which starred Christopher Martin and Christopher Reid, better known as Kid ’n Play.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Calmatic, known for his Grammy Award-winning music video Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus: Old Town Road (Remix).

My Take: Jacob Latimore started off his career in two of 2014’s biggest hits, Ride Along and The Maze Runner.

Dog Gone

Dog Gone   (2023)

Rating: N/A

Release Date: Premieres on Netflix on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: In Dog Gone, a father (Rob Lowe) and son (Johnny Berchtold), whose relationship is in pieces, are forced to travel the Appalachian Trail to search for their beloved lost dog. Finding the dog is not the only problem, as the dog will die in less than two weeks if he doesn’t get his medication. It’s a story that captured the world’s heart.

What to Watch For: The film is based on a true story and was the subject of a best-selling book, Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home by Pauls Toutonghi.

Word on the Street: The film was shot in Stone Mountain in Georgia.

My Take: What’s better than a true story film about a dog?

The Drop

The Drop   (2022)

Release Date: The film premiers on Hulu on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: The Drop is about Mani (Jermaine Fowler) and Lex (Anna Konkle), a married couple on a trip to see friends get married on a tropical island when their relationship is tested when one of them drops a baby.

What to Watch For: The film is from the production team of the Duplass brothers. And the cast includes Jillian Bell, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Gene Farber, Joshua Leonard, and Elisha Henig.

Word on the Street: Anna Konkle is best known for creating and starring in the TV series PEN15.

My Take: I’ve been a fan of Jillian Bell since her hilarious role as Maureen, the assistant who wore revealing clothing at work in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Saint Omer

Saint Omer  (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: Saint Omer is about Rama (Kayije Kagame), a novelist researching her next work at the trial of Laurence Coly (Guslagie Malanda), who is accused of drowning her child. Laurence claims she did it because of demons.

What to Watch For: The film is France’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category of the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.

Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story and has been a big hit on the film festival circuit, including winning Best Screenplay at the 2022 Chicago International Film Festival.

My Take: I am excited to see this film, which made the Oscar shortlist for Best International Feature.

The Devil Conspiracy

The Devil Conspiracy  (2022)

Rating: R

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Summary: In The Devil Conspiracy a biotech company has developed a way to clone history’s most influential people with just a few fragments of DNA. Using the Shroud of Turin, a cabal of Satanists will give Jesus’ DNA as the ultimate offering to the Devil. Archangel Michael defeated the Devil once before. And he will have to do it again if mankind is to be saved.

What to Watch For: The film stars Joe Doyle, known for his role as Baron Sebastian Marburg in the TV series Salem. Also starring is Peter Mensah, who we’ve loved from a number of different projects, including Spartacus, 300, and NBC’s Midnight, Texas.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Nathan Frankowski, an award-winning filmmaker whose 2016 film Te Ata won the Orlando Film Festival.

My Take: Hey, it’s January, which means it’s time for horror films, and I am ready.
