David Harbour Confesses It’s Time for ‘Stranger Things’ to End

David Harbour is already looking ahead to the ending of Netflix’s Stranger Things, as he’s admitting it’s definitely time for the series to end.

Stranger Things, which premiered in 2016, has been a roaring success. Its fresh-faced cast has all shot to stardom over the last seven years. And David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper in the series, acknowledges that it’s time to move on because the actors have grown up.

“What’s funny is when I started the show, I never, ever wanted it to end. That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it. Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season. And I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there. But also, we’ve all grown up …” Harbour says in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects,” Harbour adds.

But the cast isn’t the only reason that Harbour thinks it’s time for the show to wrap up. He’s also excited to see what the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer), do next.

“[We need] to let the Duffer brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time.” he reiterates.

With Stranger Things Season 5 approaching (and all the wild fan theories around it), Matt Duffer revealed that they met with Netflix to discuss their plans for wrapping the series up. So how did it go over with the Netflix executives? Apparently, they were in tears.

“We turned in the first script a couple of weeks ago, and we’re onto the second. It’s full steam ahead … We did get our executives to cry, which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying,” Matt Duff revealed in late 2022.

“The only other times I’ve seen them cry were like budget meetings.” he jokingly added.
