Bette Midler Comments on the Potential for ‘Hocus Pocus 3’

Will There Be a Hocus Pocus 3

Will there be a Hocus Pocus 3? It’s a fair question after last fall’s Hocus Pocus 2, which was a remarkably strong follow-up to the 1993 original film.

E! News asked star Bette Midler what, if anything, she could share with fans about plans to continue the franchise. And Midler didn’t have the most encouraging news, stating that she was unsure because “everything is weird.”

“I’m not sure. Everything is weird. I don’t know, maybe. Who knows?” Midler confessed.

Midler, 77, reprised her role as witch Winnie Sanderson in last year’s sequel, and she’s confirming that she would be in for a third film. She’s just unsure what the story would be.

Bette Midler Would Sign on for a Hocus Pocus 3

“If there was a third one, of course, I’d sign on, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be. But I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water. But we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem!” she continued.

Midler’s fellow Sanderson sisters, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, also seem interested in more movies – even if they’re not in the same live-action format.

Sarah Jessica Parker Also Interested in Talks for Another Film

“Kathy had a good idea that the third one should be animated,” Parker noted in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly. “That would be cool and a smart idea. It’s fun, funny, and could be interesting and innovative, like old-fashioned or new [animation]. Of course, I’d be happy to have a conversation [for a third film], it just depends on what Kathy and Bette [Midler] want!”

Fans Shouldn’t Give Up Hope

Despite there being no concrete plans at the moment for more films. Fans shouldn’t give up hope, as Midler had previously said she never expected to make Hocus Pocus 2.

“I didn’t until the day finally came. And then, I realized, ‘Oh, we’re really gonna do this.’ This was a dream come true, it really was, ” Midler said.

“After I realized it was actually a phenomenon, I started asking people around my age, ‘Don’t you think they would be interested in a sequel?’ This was like 15 years ago, or something like that. And here we are.” she added.

Additionally, Hocus Pocus 2 director, Anne Fletcher, also commented on the potential of Hocus Pocus 3, noting that she wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

“I have definitely left it wide open for any sequel. Now it’s really up to them if they want to do it.” Fletcher confirmed.

“I can’t say anything other than yes, it is left open. Will they do it? I don’t know, they haven’t even talked about it, that I can be honest with you.” she added.
