Interview: Jeremy Smith from Days Difference

We had a chance to chat with Jeremy Smith of Days Difference about the band’s influences and being in the Hannah Montana movie! Here’s what he had to say:

How did Days Difference get started and what’s the story behind the name?

We met at a school concert! Jeremiah and Micah were in the school band. Their drummer and pianist didn’t show up to perform, so Jon and I played in their places. We met the guys on stage, had an immediate connection and started the band a few months later.
Days Difference means the difference a day can make in your life for better or for worse. It means to live everyday to the fullest because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

When did you first start writing music?

I started writing music when I was twelve. It all began with simple piano pieces and eventually turned into full songs.

Where does the inspiration for your songs come from?

Life is the biggest inspiration for our songs. That and the ladies.

If you could describe your sound in just three words, what would they be?

Catchy, meaningful pop.

What bands have influenced your music?

Keane, Muse, Coldplay, One Republic, The Killers, Britney Spears

Is there a certain song that you love to play live?

Sunrise. The ending is so dramatic! We all love playing that one.

Which song has the most meaning or is most personal to you? Why?

Our first single “Are You Happy?” is the most meaningful song to me. I really relate to the lyrics.

Is there a certain message you try to convey with your music?

We really don’t have a message or agenda we are trying to convey. We love playing music, and we want to share that love with everyone. Seeing someone do what they love is inspiring. It makes you smile. We want to make people happy.

Was there an album that you heard growing up that really changed your life and convinced you that music was your future?

Parachutes by Coldplay. That album convinced me to pursue music.

What are you guys listening to now?

Lady Gaga, Oasis, Ryan Adams, The Killers, Robbie Williams, Taylor Swift, The Cure, The Verve, Flo Rida, and Lonely Island

When you’re not working on music, what are your favorite things to do? Any must see television series?

I love working out whenever possible and going to the beach. The guys love watching football and playing video games. Must see TV series? True Blood, Dexter, Chuck, and The Office.

What was the experience like working with Miley Cyrus in the Hannah Montana movie? Was it different than what you expected?

We really didn’t know what to expect, but it was a total blast! There was plenty of free time between takes, so we were able to hang out with Miley and the rest of the cast. Miley is so down to earth and sweet. For being so successful she really has her head on her shoulders.
