‘Planet of the Apes’ Continues to Rule Box Office at #1
Planet of the Apes remains the top banana at the U.S. box office after picking up $36 million in its second week on release.
The film swung into first place last weekend, and it has managed to stave off a charge from thriller The Purge: Anarchy to stay on top.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has racked up $139 million at the U.S. box office.
The Purge: Anarchy kicked off the weekend as America’s top film but lost ground to the apes, and had to settle for second place with a $28.4 million opening weekend take.
Animated comedy Planes: Fire & Rescue debuts at three, while Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel’s new film Sex Tape disappoints at four and Transformers: Age of Extinction rounds out the new top five.
