HBO Developing ‘Shutter Island’ TV Series

A TV series based on Martin Scorsese’s hit film Shutter Island is reportedly in development by bosses at HBO.

Executives are planning to bring Scorsese on board to direct the pilot for Ashecliffe, which will center on the drama inside the mental hospital from the 2010 movie.

Dennis Lehane, who wrote the book the film is based on, will pen the script for the planned series, which will be set before the events of Shutter Island, and will focus on the past of hospital, including the the secrets and misdeeds perpetrated by its founders who built it in the early 20th Century and developed the methods of treatment use for the mentally ill, according to Deadline.com.

The film starred Leonardo DiCaprio as a federal law enforcement agent who thinks he is investigating the disappearance of a mental patient, but learns he has been institutionalized for killing his wife.
