Lena Dunham Explains Comments Comparing Bill Cosby Scandal to Holocaust

Lena Dunham has explained herself to fans after comparing the Bill Cosby scandal to the Holocaust in a new magazine interview, calling her comments a “bad analogy”.

The Girls star appears on the cover of the latest issue of Time Out New York, and in the accompanying interview she was asked why Hollywood director Judd Apatow is taking such a strong stance against Cosby, who is facing historical sexual assault allegations from more than 20 women.

Dunham replied, “(Apatow is) the lone voice, the lone male voice (speaking out against Cosby)… It’s sort of like saying someone’s obsessed with the Holocaust… This is a huge issue, and it speaks to the way that we abuse power and the way that celebrity allows for injustice. Everyone else has gone, ‘Let’s hope it’s not true’.”

However, the actress has now taken to Instagram to explain her remarks, writing, “Very excited about my pop art Time Out NY cover… My best friend and partner (Girls showrunner Jenni Konner) interviewed me and it was a ball. However… I’m already aware comparing Bill Cosby to the Holocaust wasn’t my best analogy. With love from your special rape-hating Jew friend Lena.”

Cosby’s attorney has vehemently denied the allegations against the veteran funnyman, who has been regularly lambasted by Knocked Up director Apatow on social media since the scandal hit headlines.
