Sam Smith Lost His Voice After Grammy Awards
Sam Smith pulled out of an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday after reportedly losing his voice following his big wins at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
The singer walked away from Sunday’s Los Angeles ceremony with four trophies and stayed out until 6am on Monday, celebrating with his family and friends.
He managed to make it to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday afternoon, but it appears his antics have since taken its toll on his voice as he was forced to bow out of an interview and performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday.
Producers scrambled to book a replacement celebrity and actor David Spade agreed to step in at late notice.
Jimmy Kimmel explained Smith’s absence at the top of his interview with Spade as he expressed his gratitude to the Joe Dirt star for turning up, saying, “Thank you for coming tonight, you came at the last minute. Sam Smith was supposed to be here. He was at the Grammy Awards and apparently he went out to parties afterwards and lost his voice and now, thank you for coming.”
Ironically, Smith’s performance at the Grammys was thrown into doubt days before music’s big night after he lost his voice last week. He managed to recover and hit the stage at the Staples Center, as planned, to belt out his hit “Stay With Me” with Mary J. Blige.
