‘True Detective’ Creator Nic Pizzolatto Teases New Season; HBO Releases New Character Posters
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto teased the show’s return and HBO has released four new characters posters featuring this season’s stars.
A bizarre murder in the show’s second season will bring together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. The show’s creator and showrunner talked to HBO about the new season, addressing whether or not the new season will be related to last season at all and this year’s overall tone.
Read some of what Pizzolatto had to say below:
HBO: Is there a relationship between the story of season two and the story of season one, or any connection between the seasons?
“There’s no relationship between the stories or characters, which was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.”
HBO: Will this season share the gothic horror sensibilities of season one?
“The gothic horror suggested by Louisiana’s coastal landscape didn’t feel appropriate in this place. These new landscapes have their own unique voice and their own unsettling qualities. While there’s nothing occult in this season, I think there’s a disconcerting psychology to this world, and its characters have other kinds of uncanny reality with which to contend.”
