After a long hiatus, horror icon Michael Myers is returning to the big screen in a new film, aptly titled Halloween Returns.

Dimension Films and Trancas International Film announced today production on the movie will begin in July with Marcus Dunstan (The Collector, The Collection) directing, Malek Akkad (Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, Halloween: Resurrection) serving as producer and Matthew Stein (Halloween II, Scream 4) serving as executive producer.

“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films.

“The legacy of Halloween is something that Trancas is very proud of, and I look forward to working together again with Bob and Dimension to continue that tradition,” added Akkad.

Myers’ last appearance was in Rob Zombie‘s two Halloween movies, 2007’s Halloween and 2009’s Halloween II.
