Kate Winslet Wants Leonardo DiCaprio to Win Best Actor at Oscars over ‘Steve Jobs’ Co-Star

Kate Winslet’s night at the Oscars looks like it’s going to be more than a little awkward after endorsing her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender’s rival Leonardo DiCaprio for the Best Actor prize.

DiCaprio is the favorite to land his first Academy Award for his role as real-life wilderness man Hugh Glass in The Revenant, after winning awards at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards this month, and even his former Titanic cast mate Winslet is championing him.

“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for him,” Kate, who is also an Oscars front-runner for Best Supporting Actress, told the BBC. “It would be amazing.”

And she admits her support for Leo might not be popular among those she made Steve Jobs with.

“It’s slightly difficult for me too, because Michael Fassbender has been nominated, and I was his right-hand woman for three months while we were making Steve Jobs and I saw how hard he worked,” she added. “I think his performance is so extraordinary. But I think, yeah, you can sort of feel the temperature. It’s probably going to be Leo’s year.”

Leonardo scored his fifth acting nomination when the Oscars shortlist was announced last week. He has previously been recognized by Academy voters with nods for The Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
