The Boss Baby: Family Business
Not having seen the entire film, ‘The Boss Baby’, naturally I was not quite sure what to expect with the sequel, ‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’ but I can say I did enjoy it. It definitely makes me want to go back now and watch the first one in its entirety.
While not the funniest or best animated film I have ever seen, the characters were interesting and witty and played off each other very well. Needless to say my grandkids were mesmerized the whole time, which is what I was hoping would happen. I also was hoping it would not be a film full of potty humor since I did have my grandkids with me otherwise we would have had to leave and I am glad to say it did not.
The story is set 40 years later from the last film and stars Ted (voiced by Alec Baldwin) and Tim (voiced this time by James Marsden, a role previously voiced by Tobey Maguire) both adults living different lives, who have grown apart. It also features the voices of Amy Sedaris, Eva Longoria, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Ariana Greenblatt. But the big star of this film in my opinion is the character voiced by Jeff Goldblum, Dr. Erwin Armstrong, but more about him in a minute.
Tim is a stay at home dad of two kids while Ted is a self-made millionaire/CEO and are reunited by Tim’s infant daughter, Tina, who just happens to be an agent. By drinking a formula, Tim and Ted are turned back into babies for 48 hours, during which fine they have to stop the evil Dr. Armstrong from brainwashing the parents and turning the control of the world over to babies. It is a far fetched storyline but it is an animated, kids film after all. This is the time in which Jeff Goldblum shines in his role. The animated character has the same mannerisms, sound (obviously), physical traits with one part being extreme, and personality. His character is too funny and I loved it. He, alone, is worth watching this film in my opinion.
But overall it is a great kids film and does teach us about growing older and how that does not have to keep us from growing apart. It also focuses on family relationships and love for one another. You cannot go wrong with a film that has that kind of message.
A big shout out to Emma Loggins Sprinkle and FanBolt for the tickets as it was an enjoyable evening with my beautiful granddaughters!
