‘The Lion King’ Story Continues in ‘The Lion Guard’

The Lion King is making a long-awaited return in the form of a new TV movie and series that will follow Simba and Nala’s young cub.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is the upcoming project that will follow Simba and Nala’s second born cub, Kion, as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands.

The movie and series stars Max Charles (The Strain as Kion, and welcomes returning favorites James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella, who will reprise their roles from The Lion King as Mufasa and Pumbaa, respectively.

Also joining the cast are Rob Lowe (The Grinder) as Simba and Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane) as Nala.

Fans can look forward to meeting new characters that will join Kion on his adventures as well. The cast also includes Bunga, a fearless honey badger and Kion’s best friend, voiced by Joshua Rush (The Adventures of Puss in Boots); Ono, an intellectual egret, voiced by Atticus Shaffer (The Middle); Fuli, a confident cheetah, voiced by Diamond White (Sofia the First); and Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo, voiced by Dusan Brown (Blaze and the Monster Machines).

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, which premieres in November, will serve as a precursor to the Disney’s upcoming series The Lion Guard, headed to Disney and Disney Junior in 2016.
