If you’ve seen the first season of Netflix’s Bridgerton, then you’ve likely been asking when does Bridgerton Season 2 come out?! You’re not alone, we’ve been asking as well! We’re dying for our return to our favorite regency-era series!

Bridgerton marks Shonda Rhimes’ first project under her sizable Netflix deal. If you’re not familiar with the series, all you need to know is it’s essentially Jane Austen meets Gossip Girl, and it’s every bit as delightfully addicting as it sounds!

Bridgerton Season 2 Release Date Is March 25, 2022

Updated February 22, 2022

The Bridgerton Season 2 release date is just around the corner. The series returns to Netflix on March 25, 2022. On Christmas Day, Netflix announced the premiere date with a rather charming video. Check it out below.

Bridgerton Season 2 Trailer

Our first look at the new season came during Netflix’s TUDUM event on September 25th! Check it out below.

And the official Bridgerton Season 2 Trailer debuted on February 14, 2022 (A Valentines Day premiere for the trailer couldn’t be more fitting!) Check it out below.

The Filming

The second season of Bridgerton began filming in the spring of 2021. However, production had to pause in mid-July due to a COVID-19 outbreak on set. Production resumed filming in mid-August and is still in the works.

At the time of the pause, Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton‘s showrunner, did confirm that the first few episodes had already entered post-production.

Van Dusen also has teased the focus of the next season, saying, “We pick up Anthony after we’ve seen what he’s been through with his mistress. He’s thinking, ‘Was that love?’ Some would call it that, others would not. We’re exploring those concepts of duty and honor once again.”

The Cast & Plot

We know that Bridgerton Season 2 will be focusing on Anthony Bridgerton. The initial news came as a bit of a shock as media outlets reported that Regé-Jean Page would not be returning as Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings. Page was offered a guest role for the upcoming season, but he declined the offer.

Fans can expect him to be referenced and can expect to see Daphne and Simone’s baby. But the series will be focusing on a different love story this season – much like each of the books in Julia Quinn’s book series (which focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling in every book).

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, will be returning as well. She commented on the shift in direction earlier this year, saying, “We’re very much passing on the baton to the lovely Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, and that will be the main storyline of season 2 and the story arc of season 2. The show centers around the Bridgertons, and there are eight books. And I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show.”

The New Love Interest

Simone Ashley (best known for her role in Sex Education) is joining the Bridgerton cast for Season 2. She’ll be playing Kate Sharma (Kate Sheffield in the book series), Anthony Bridgerton’s love interest.

“Before I knew it, I was going into the studios where we film for fittings,” Ashley commented on being cast as Kate. “It happened incredibly fast.”

Ashley also commented on her initial connection with Kate, describing her as “competitive” and “smart.”

“She listens to her own instincts and she’s not easily swayed by what everyone else is doing,” Ashley continues. “We meet her in different vulnerable moments and discover her background a little bit more and the family trauma that she holds.”

We’ll meet Kate and her family in the first episode of the new season. Kate’s official description, from Julia Quinn’s book The Viscount Who Loved Me, reads as “the most meddlesome woman to ever grace a London ballroom.”

Bridgerton Season 2 Sharma Family

We’ll also be getting four new characters, Charithra Chandran will play Edwina Sharma. Edwina is Kate’s younger sister, a debutante who is looking for her true love match. Shelley Conn will be playing Kate and Edwina’s mother, Lady Mary Sharma. Next, we have Calam Lynch who will play Theo Sharpe. Theo is a hardworking printer’s assistant, and lastly, Rupert Young, who will play Jack. We don’t know much about Jack, as he’s a new character who isn’t from the books. But we know he has a connection to one of Bridgerton‘s most notable families.

Another casting update of note, Queen Charlotte, is getting her own spin-off series. While not appearing in the original books series, her popularity gained her own series, which is being penned by Shonda Rhimes. The new show will follow the journey of Charlotte during her youth. And fans can also expect to see a young Violet Bridgerton and young Lady Danbury in that series as well.

How Many Episodes Will There Be in Season 2?

There has been no official announcement as of yet in regards to how many episodes fans can expect in Bridgerton Season 2. But we expect there will be 8 episodes, as there was in the first season.

Will There Be a Bridgerton Season 3?

Yes! Not only will Bridgerton Season 3 be happening, but Netflix announced that Bridgerton Season 4 has already been greenlit. There’s no shortage of material for the series to pull from. Julia Quinn’s book series has 8 novels. And each of those novels focuses on a member of the Bridgerton family.

Personally, I can’t wait for Eloise’s story. How about you all? Let us know your hopes for Bridgerton Season 2 as well the future seasons in our comment section below! And keep checking back, as we’ll be sharing all Season 2 news here along with the official trailer when it releases!

  1. No, I think I will pass on this series! It is definitely popular enough that I don’t think not having one viewer will hurt, ha!

    1. It’s definitely more of a chick-flick! It’s like Gossip Girl and Jane Austen had a baby – so I’m over here loving it! haha
