‘Pretty Little Liars’ Winter Premiere Recap and Review: She’s Better Now

Another year, another introduction to a sure to be epic half season of Pretty Little Liars! After where the first part of the season left us, along with the winter premiere, I think it’s safe to say that fans of this series will be in for a lot! In one jam packed episode, questions were answered, lies were brought to surface, and theories were gathered.

Mona (Janel Parrish):

She’s out of the madhouse officially, and bringing a bit of chaos with her! After telling Hanna (Ashley Benson) that her parents are forcing her to enroll back into Rosewood (which we later find out was definitely not the case), a series of events happen. Events involving an explosion, a cow brain, and a plea for forgiveness in the form of a video. Mona claims that she’s trying to right her wrongs towards Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily, but it all eventually comes off as fake. Plus, it also comes to light that she’s been communicating with Jason (Drew Van Acker), something Spencer (Troian Bellisario) isn’t too happy about. Yet, the biggest shock of the night came when Mona went to visit Jason… And he had a stab wound. There are a lot of questions involving Mona, she is a very peculiar character, but she definitely makes the show more fun.

The Little Liars:

As always, the gang has an exceptionally bad few days. First off, Aria (Lucy Hale) is still harboring the secret that Ezra has a son. And with the ‘A’ Team knowing, the secret is definitely not safe. Not only that, but she must also come to terms with the fact that her dad isn’t as innocent as she wants to believe. Let me just say, Byron (Chad Lowe) upped his creepy factor last night! It’s making me nervous to see where things lead. As if that isn’t enough for Aria, she also has to deal with having Meredith being her new teacher. And after an explosion injuring Meredith, and having Aria and the little liars at the pit of the blame, that’s not going to be easy.

Emily, on the other hand, had a lighter load this episode. Not dealing with nearly as much as Aria for once. Her biggest problem was being on house arrest. But come on, it has happened to all of us. Hanna had to deal with Mona, which is a difficult task to say the least. Lastly, Spencer did what Spencer always does: Investigate and ask questions. Though, now with Toby being a threat, and Spencer having no idea, the tension is definitely rising. But has anyone noticed how Toby (Keegan Allen) has upped his creepiness tenfold since being revealed as ‘A’? He seems like a completely different character now…

To top all of it off, the creepy innkeeper (back from when they were just finding out about Mona being ‘A’) is back in janitor form! Not only is he in contact with Mona, but he also has a protective hold of Alison’s diary! Not really sure what to make of this, but it’s definitely an interesting twist.

And there you have it! An epic start to a metaphorical roller coaster. Although we were supplied with a generous amount of answers, we were also supplied with a massive amount of questions! It’s become evident that Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna can trust no one… That fact was reiterated a lot during last night’s premiere. All in all, last night’s episode was excellent. The job of this episode was to provide a slight guide as to where the season would lead, and to obviously keep us interested. Well, it definitely delivered.
