Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Wraps ‘Red One’ Filming in Atlanta, Georgia
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently wrapped up work on his upcoming Christmas flick, Red One. The project, which filmed in Atlanta, Georgia as well as Florida, also stars Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
“An absolute privilege to say that’s an official wrap of ‘Red One’,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “What a ride and awakening experience this production has been, in many expected – and unexpected ways. Empathy, kindness and seeing the good in all people. Including oneself. We made a good one. More to come. Down the road…”
The project also saw Johnson reunite with director Jake Kasdan. The two previously worked together on both of the recent Jumanji movies, 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level.
What You Need to Know about Red One
Red One, which is an Amazon Prime Video project, will see Dwayne Johnson starring as Callum Drift. Chris Evans will play Jack O’Malley, and J.K. Simmons stars as a “bulked up” Father Christmas. While plot details have been kept largely under wraps, it is being described as a “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre”.
After a rather intense bidding war, Amazon Studios landed the project, which is based on an original story penned by Hiram Garcia, who is the President of Production at Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions company.
Garcia has previously spoken on the project noting that Seven Bucks had the goal of making not only a festive film, but also one that fit ‘The Rock’ perfectly.
“We had been looking for something that matched, the tone and tenor of DJ (Dwayne Johnson) and what DJ brings to the table. So we were able to come up with a really fun Christmas idea. But in tone it’s much more of a ‘Hobbs Shaw’, more of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ in tone and vibe because you’re dealing with crazy mythological elements, turning a lot of tropes we know about the holidays on their head, but also really big action and globe-trotting.” Garcia explained.
Red One Expected Release Date
Amazon’s Red One is expected to be release this year during the holiday season. We’ll keep you posted when an exact date is announced.
