‘The Originals’ 1.04 Episode Recap And Review: Girl In New Orleans

Three episodes down for The Originals, and the audience is pulled even deeper into this dark and seriously twisted drama. As Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Cami (Leah Pipes) get closer, shocking revelations come to surface. Meanwhile, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and the baby are faced with another life threatening situation to only be saved by a mysterious werewolf. And to top it all off, Klaus and Davina (Danielle Campbell) finally meet in a jaw-dropping showdown.

What A Witch Wants, What A Witch Needs:

It must be hard being a teenage witch in hiding. Davina makes a plea to Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) to allow her to go into the Quarter for the festivities happening that night. Marcel automatically says no, but after a heated threat from Davina, he promptly changes his mind and enlists his vampire crew and Cami to keep an eye on her. Once the night begins, the audience quickly realizes that a boy named Tim is responsible for Davina’s desire to go out. After finding out this information, Klaus takes it upon himself to lure the two love-birds into a secluded area, which ended up being the church that Davina had been hiding in (that was also host to a massacre). Everything was going all fine and dandy until Klaus showed up and ‘offered’ an alliance to Davina. Let’s just say Klaus doesn’t take no for an answer. After a few broken bones and some boiling blood on Klaus’ side, he flings Tim off the balcony to his near death. By doing this, he was able to offer Davina a trade: Saving Tim’s life for a favor in return. Now, Davina is questioning her loyalty to Marcel more than ever, and it doesn’t help that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is awake and ready to chat either.

Cami’s Revelation:

While under compulsion, Cami helps Davina meet up with her crush, Tim, at the church where she’s forced to hide in. When Rebekah (Claire Holt) finds the church earlier on during her search for Elijah, we are enlightened by its horrific history. A priest snaps one day, massacring everyone inside the church. We later find out that the infamous priest, Sean, is actually Cami’s brother! With her new found knowledge of the supernatural realm, she pieces together that her brother may not have had a psychotic break– he may have actually been compelled to kill all those people. In the end, she confides in Klaus in good faith, but he decides to take the matter into his own hands. Klaus erases Cami’s memory so that she’s more focused on his bidding, but promises that he will pursue the vampire who compelled Cami’s twin to kill all those people. Definitely the saddest moment of the episode.

Trust No Witch:

Even a Hybrid Miracle Baby needs to have regular checkups, even if said checkups are performed by some sketchy Bayou doctor! Hayley, at the request of Agnes, goes out to the Bayou in the middle of the night to check the progress of her baby. Unfortunately, everything goes awry when Hayley finds out that it was all a ploy. It seems that Sophia is the only witch that she can trust, and it likely has something to do with the ominous-witchy chant we heard last week. Hayley quickly shows that, even in her pregnant state, she can still definitely kick some ass. Sadly, it wasn’t enough! Rebekah soon comes to the rescue after getting a text from her, but in the end, they are both shot with arrows! Luckily, the duo come out almost unharmed, and we learn that Hayley’s Hybrid baby actually heals her! In the end, all of the witches ended up being brutally slaughtered by Hayley and Rebekah’s mystery savior… The only question is, who or what is it?

I think it’s quite obvious how much I adore this show! Klaus and Cami’s scene at the end of ‘Girl in New Orleans’ was excellent. Very well written, acted, everything was perfect. The whole situation with the church and Cami’s twin seemed a little bit awkward, to be honest. It was kind of thrown in there, but by the end the scene really tied in and showed the utter relevance of it. So far, The Originals has not disappointed me, and I’m crossing my fingers in hopes that it keeps it up. As always, I’m so curious to see what happens next!

Questions:

Will Davina change what side she’s on?

Was what Klaus did to Cami noble or selfish? Will he follow through with his promise to pursue the vampire that forced Cami’s brother to kill everyone?

Who is this mysterious wolf that’s helping Hayley out?
