Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ to Start Filming this June

Frankenstein Movie

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is getting ready to start production! The upcoming Netflix project will begin filming in June. And it is expected to film in both Toronto, Canada, and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Del Toro’s last project with Netflix, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, received no shortage of critical praise last year. And it even won the Oscar for Best Animated Film. So, it’s clear that both the streaming platform and del Toro make a good combo!

The Storyline of Frankenstein

While the plot for Frankenstein is being kept under wraps, we do know a few details about the storyline.

The movie is expected to be set in Eastern Europe during the 19th Century. In order to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Septimus Pretorius needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster, who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before.

Frankenstein Cast and Crew

While it’s not been announced what roles they’ll take on, Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac, and Andrew Garfield have all signed on for the project, which will be directed, produced, and written by del Toro. Of course, the original source material is Mary Shelley’s book, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

Tamara Deverell will serve as the set designer, reuniting her yet again with del Toro. The pair last worked together on 2021’s Nightmare Alley and, before that, 2017’s The Shape of Water.

Dan Laustsen will be the cinematographer, with Alexandre Desplat signed on as the composer.

Additional Details

A production listing that went out at the end of March for the flick calls the film Dr. Frankenstein. Though, it’s unclear at this time if that will be the movie’s official title, as IMDb still has it listed as Frankenstein.

No additional details are known at this time. However, with filming starting in just a few short weeks, we expect that we’ll hear more confirmations on the cast and their roles, along with other news from the production.
