After two successful seasons, The Morning Show Season 3 returns on AppleTV+ in just a few short weeks. The new season wrapped filming before the current Hollywood strikes and will premiere on AppleTV+ on September 13!
Here’s everything we know about The Morning Show Season 3. There may be spoilers from season two ahead.
The Morning Show Returns for Seasons 3 and 4
At the end of July, The Morning Show released a teaser trailer of what’s to come for the characters in season three. The trailer didn’t touch on exact storylines. Though, it does include a line from one of the show’s new characters, played by Jon Hamm.
“You need a miracle, I’m offering you a lifeline.”
Could this mean the network’s in trouble? On August 24, another trailer dropped giving us a little more insight into what’s to come this season.
The official synopsis by Apple TV+ on The Morning Show Season 3 reads:
“This season, the future of the network is thrown into question and loyalties are pushed to the brink when a tech titan takes an interest in UBA. Unexpected alliances form, private truths are weaponized, and everyone is forced to confront their core values both in and out of the newsroom.”
Another positive note for fans, The Morning Show Season 4 has been confirmed as well. The news came in May from Apple, months ahead of season three’s release.
The Morning Show Season 3 Cast
It’s a given that Jennifer Aniston is back as Alex Levy alongside Reese Witherspoon as Bradley Jackson. Billy Crudup, as Cory ,will also be returning, as will Julianna Margulies as Laura. Also returning are Greta Lee as Stella Bak, Mark Duplass as Charlie “Chip” Black, Nestor Carbonell as Yanko Flores, and Karen Pittman as Mia Jordan as regulars.
The show will also bring Mad Men’s Jon Hamm into the cast. Hamm plays Paul Marks, described as a “corporate titan who sets his sights on UBA, pulling Cory, Bradley, and Alex into his powerful orbit.” Tig Notaro will be playing Marks’ top aide, Amanda Robinson.
Another new face joining the cast is Nicole Beharie as Christina Hunter, one of The Morning Show’s new anchors. Renowned British actor Stephen Fry will also be part of The Morning Show Season 3 as Leonard Cromwell. Leonard Cromwell is described by Deadline as a ruthless UBA board member that is working to get the company through troubled financial waters.
Natalie Morales is also confirmed to join the cast as Kate Danton. Kate is Stella’s best friend from Stanford where they were part of a start-up incubator run by Paul Marks. Other stars joining the cast include Clive Standen as Andre Ford, Alano Miller as Marcus Hunter, and Lindsay Duncan as Martha Ellison.
The show wrapped filming for season three on February 9 this year, with Aniston marking the milestone on Instagram. Aniston also teased the return of guest star Marcia Gay Harden.
Aniston and Witherspoon serve as the show’s executive producers alongside Kerry Ehrin, Michael Ellenberg, Kristin Hahn, and Lauren Neustadter. Mimi Leder will also serve as executive producer and director.
What Happened in Season 2?
It’s March 2020 and the world is starting to lock down because of the pandemic. Alex quarantines at home while dealing with the fallout over her confession that she traveled to Italy to confront former co-host, Mitch. In a segment, Alex decides to report on her experience getting COVID.
Bradley tracks down her addict brother Hal. Cory offers to help her in looking for Hal and tells Bradley he’s in love with her. When they find Hal, he’s sober but in a hospital full of COVID patients.
What to Expect for Season 3
Then-showrunner for The Morning Show Kerry Ehrin told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021 that anything is possible. Ehrin is now serving as a consultant, with Charlotte Stoudt taking over as The Morning Show showrunner.
“It’s such an interesting little universe,” said Ehrin at the time. “You really can put it anywhere in time and I think the challenge of the show is coming up with that big subject. Because those are real subjects. They’re not fabricated. They’re pulled from all our lives and they greatly impacted all of us, and I think that’s always the challenge of the show.”
Separately, Ehrin told Deadline that she wants to see more of the love triangle between Laura, Bradley, and Cory. “I definitely want to see more of Bradley and Laura,” said Ehrin.
Jon Hamm’s Character
Witherspoon also described Hamm’s character as “very complex” as he’s introduced into the new season.
“He’s a media mogul, and he gives Billy Crudup a run for his money which I think is the most fun part too, because Billy could eat a scene like I’ve never seen somebody eat a scene, and Hamm gets to come in and give him a great foil,” Witherspoon told Deadline in August 2022.
Romance in the Third Season
Anison teased that there will be a lot of romance in the coming season.
“Nothing’s funny about Morning Show. I’m kidding. There’s a lot of romance this year, and a lot of secrets that will be revealed,” said the FRIENDS star during promos for Murder Mystery 2.
Aniston also hinted at what Alex will be going through in the third season.
“I think it’s time to see Alex find some love and some passion. She could put the controls down and go into the vulnerability of opening up her heart, which I don’t think she’s ever really done,” said the actress.
The Morning Show Season 3 Release Date
The Morning Show Season 3 will be available to watch on Apple TV+ on September 13. The first two episodes out of 10 will be available to watch on its premiere date. The upcoming season also comes almost two years after season two, which ended in November 2021.
Season 4 poses some scheduling challenges surrounding Aniston and Witherspoon’s contracts that were set to end after the third season. It wouldn’t be surprising that negotiations are underway for the fourth season.
Until then, fans can rewatch the first two seasons to be up to speed for season three.
