XO, Kitty Season 2 Confirmed

Netflix renewed XO, Kitty for a second season on June 14, 2023, less than a month after it premiered on the streaming service. It’s not surprising given how popular the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies are. Even more so when the spinoff series attracted more fans and received an 82 percent score on the audience aggregate Rotten Tomatoes. XO, Kitty is also up on Netflix’s global top 10 list.

The spinoff now focuses on Lara Jean’s younger sister Kitty Song Covey, who embarks on a coming-of-age adventure in South Korea. Kitty travels to South Korea to study in the same school her late mother attended. All the while reuniting with her long-distance boyfriend Dae, but things get complicated.

The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise is based on the book series by Jenny Han. Han is also the co-showrunner and executive producer of XO, Kitty with Sasha Rothchild.

“We all fell so deeply in love with Lara Jean and her story. So it felt like the greatest gift to give to Kitty was to let her as a character kind of set off on her own two feet and not put her in the shadow of either of her sisters,” Han told Tudum.

The show’s official synopsis reads:

“Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.”

What Happened So Far?

Season 1 of XO, Kitty saw the titular character jet off to South Korea to study at KISS. Kitty also reunites with her long-distance boyfriend Dae, but things get complicated when she discovers he’s dating Yuri. Yuri, however, is only dating Dae to cover up her relationship with Juliana.

Meanwhile, Professor Finnerty is revealed to be the secret son of Principal Jina and Professor Lee. Alex was adopted as a child and his birth was hidden from Daniel.

By the first season’s finale, Kitty is supposedly leaving South Korea. Her departure possibly follows her expulsion from KISS after Principal Jina finds out she’s roommates with Dae, Min Ho, and Q. But just when she’s about to confess her feelings to Yuri, Min Ho – who sought to accompany Kitty on her flight – decides to tell her he’s fallen in love with her.

“I kind of felt like Dae wanted to hold her, so he ran to the airport,” Choi Min-young, who plays Dae, revealed to TV Guide about the Season 1 finale. “But after he hears what she thinks about, he just doesn’t try anymore.”

In the conversation between Kitty and Dae, Kitty wants to officially end things with him. According to Choi, that wasn’t what Dae had in mind after getting to the airport. He ultimately agreed with Kitty and they thanked each other for being each other’s first loves.

“He thinks that’s the way to love her, which is sad,” said Choi. “It is sad that the only way that he could love her is to let her go.”

The XO, Kitty Cast

For XO, Kitty Season 2, we can expect all the main cast members to return. Anna Cathcart will return as the titular character Kitty as well as Choi Min-youn as Dae. Real-life siblings Gia Kim and Sang-Heon Lee will return as Yuri Han and Min Ho respectively. Anthony Keyvan is also expected to come back as Kitty’s best friend Quincy “Q” Shabazian.

Regan Aliyah is also expected to return as Yuri’s girlfriend Juliana. Theo Augier Bonaventure may also be coming back as Q’s boyfriend Florian. We can also expect the three major adult characters to return for Season 2: Peter Thurnwald as Professor Alex Finnerty, Michael K. Lee as Professor Daniel Lee, and Yunjin Kim as Principal Jina Lim.

We may also see Kitty’s fellow classmates return for Season 2, played by Sunny Oh, Jocelyn Shelfo, and Ryu Han-bi. While it isn’t confirmed, the members of the Covey family may also return for XO, Kitty Season 2. John Corbett as Dan Covey and Sarayu Blue as Trina made a guest appearance in XO, Kitty Season 1.

Lana Condor, who played Lara Jean in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movies, teased a possible cameo for Season 2. Lara Jean’s return would definitely be a treat for fans of the franchise.

What to Expect in Season 2?

While there are hardly any details of what XO, Kitty Season 2 will be about, it’s expected to tie up some loose ends from the previous season. Since Kitty was expelled for staying in the same dorm as Dae, Q, and Min Ho, she also got support from several students including Yuri. Season 2 might see Kitty’s expulsion get overturned.

But if Kitty does return to South Korea in Season 2, there will definitely be some messes to clean up. One of which is with Min Ho, who confessed his love for her before she left. To be exact, Min Ho confessed just as Kitty was hoping to do the same to Yuri. Dae might also still be hurting over his breakup with Kitty. With how complicated this got, Kitty might be forced to learn who she really has feelings for.

Meanwhile, there’s also the situation with the faculty surrounding Principal Jina, Professor Finnerty, and Professor Lee. Now that the big family secret between the three of them is out, Season 2 might explore their newfound family dynamic. All this as well as how Yuri may approach having a step-brother in Alex.

Speaking to TV Guide, Sang Heon Lee weighed in on the confession scene between Min Ho and Kitty on the plane.

“The fact that he managed to sit in a coach, economy seat in the plane and taking his time to be there next to Kitty is something else,” said Lee. “Going through flight tickets, making sure everything’s all right. It’s mad. I would say he’s still in love with her.”
