A Look at Guy Ritchie’s ‘Fountain Of Youth’ Movie Starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman

Director Guy Ritchie has another project in the works. His upcoming Fountain of Youth movie will star John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. And while details about the film are still scarce, here are some teases and details that movie fans can look forward to!

Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming Fountain of Youth movie.

The Origin & Announcement of the Fountain Of Youth Movie

Earlier in January 2024, Deadline reported that director Guy Ritchie is set to helm Fountain of Youth. The upcoming film is a repeat partnership between Apple Original Films and Skydance. The movie will be produced for Apple by Skydance, Vinson Films, and Project X Entertainment. This follows the success of The Family Plan, which premiered in December 2023.

James Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay for the flick, which attracted the interest of Skydance, who sought to prioritize the project after reading the script.  However, the studio needed the right talent before it greenlit the film. Ritchie had also taken an interest in the film. Unfortunately, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes led to a pause in pursuing the project. The strikes ended in September and November for both unions. And interest in the project resumed with both John Krasinski and Natalie Portman attached to the project.

Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and David Ellison will be producing the film for Skydance. Vanderbilt, Tripp Vinson, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are producing under Vinson Films and Project X Entertainment. Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Jake Myers are also producers of the film. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella of Radio Silence are executive producing.

The Plot & Cast

Fountain of Youth will follow two estranged siblings who team up for a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. Together, they must use their knowledge of history to follow clues and embark on an adventure that will change their lives.

The film will star John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as the two siblings. Deadline announced on January 19, 2024, that Eiza Gonzalez is also joining the cast of the upcoming film. Additionally, Domnhall Gleeson is also set to appear in the film.

Fountain of Youth marks a reunion for Natalie Portman and Apple. The actress and her producing partner Sophie Mas, signed a first-look TV deal with Apple TV+ for their MountainA production company. Under the deal, Portman and Mas are producing the Apple TV series Lady in the Lake, which will also be Portman’s TV debut.

Also worthy of note, Fountain of Youth will be Gonzalez’s third time working with Guy Ritchie. The two of them most recently wrapped production on an upcoming action movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill. Gonzalez and Cavill also star in Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which premieres on April 19, 2024.

What to Expect from the Movie

The details surrounding the rest of the film remain scarce, including the characters Portman, Krasinski, Gonzalez, and Gleeson are going to portray. But with Ritchie directing, an action-packed adventure surely lies ahead.

In an interview with TIME while on the set of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Ritchie shared how loyalty is a common theme in his movies.

“Well, because it’s so hard to be loyal. And I think people underestimate the complexity and temptations and the subtlety of being corrupted to lose focus on the simplicity of being loyal either to your word or to your bond or whatever. You say you’ll never do something and then you find yourself doing that something and then you create all sorts of alibis in order to make that happen,” said Ritchie.

“Loyalty starts with oneself and then it expands to really every relationship that you have in your life. So, again, a classical theme that one can’t get away from. If you really examine the complexity and nuances of loyalty, you realize that there’s all sorts of deals that you’ve made along the way that have not ultimately been in your interest,” the director explained.

Separately, in September 2023, Ritchie talked about the pressure he felt when he adapted the medieval legend of King Arthur for the big screen in 2017. Ritchie shared how he went into an existential crisis as it steered away from his usual style of films.

“I had a two-week existential crisis where I’m convinced I’ve made the worst mistake in the world. And then the phoenix of confidence rises out of the ashes. And then gradually you find your momentum, the film finds its own way,” Ritchie revealed to Good Morning America.

Fountain of Youth Movie Release Date Speculation & News

The Fountain of Youth release date has yet to be announced. However, production began in March 2024. Filming is taking place in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Egypt, and Austria under the working title “Bimini.” At this time, it’s unclear whether the film will have a theatrical release or go straight to Apple TV+.

In the meantime, Ritchie’s upcoming film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, premieres on April 19, 2024. As mentioned earlier, Gonzalez also stars in the picture alongside Henry Cavill. The film is based on Damien Lewis’s nonfiction book “Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII.”
