Bridgerton Season 4

The hype is as high as ever as one of Netflix’s biggest shows, Bridgerton will be coming back with its third season this year. But even with the current season around the corner, fans are just as hyped with what’s to come for Season 4. Most especially, the excitement towards the love story that will come next.

Here’s everything we know so far about Bridgerton Season 4.

Bridgerton Will Return For Season 4

Bridgerton Season 4 is coming, to the continued excitement of fans everywhere. Netflix has renewed the show, based on Julia Quinn’s book series. The books and the show follow the titular Bridgerton family. The series follows the Bridgerton family as they find love in England during the Regency era. Netflix renewed the show for two more seasons during production for Season 2.

Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come,” the streamer said at the time.

Building up to the hype surrounding Season 3, fans have already gotten a lot of hints, except for who will lead next.

Season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, based on the first book, “The Duke and I.” Season 2 centered on Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, inspired by “The Viscount Who Loved Me.” The upcoming season, Season 3, will focus on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, based on the book, “Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.” This is despite Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett being the main couple in the third book, “An Offer from a Gentleman.”

“I won’t give you anything, but I do think that there are some clues at the end of Season 3 of where we’re headed,” Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell told TV Insider in April 2024. Brownell replaced creator Chris Van Dusen. “So yeah, I leave that to fans to pick apart, but I think we’re tipping our hand just a little bit.”

Cast

For Bridgerton Season 4, we can expect many of the main cast to return. This includes Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington, Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton, Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, and Hannah Dodd as Francesca Bridgerton. Also expected to return are Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton, Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton, and Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

In April 2024, Newton said he plans to continue appearing on Bridgerton. “It’s changed my life, so I know that I’ll be sticking around,” the actor told High Life Magazine.

Rege Jean Page, who played Simon Basset, hasn’t hinted at a possible return to the role for Season 4. Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton, appeared in Season 2 but revealed that she wasn’t in the upcoming episodes. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley, who played Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma respectively, reprised their roles for Season 3. The pair, however, haven’t ruled out appearing in future seasons.

Ahead of the Season 3 premiere this May 2024, Brownell confirmed that the show’s writers’ room had already begun working on the next story. Speaking to Refinery29, Brownell was pressed on which Bridgerton sibling would the upcoming season focus on.

“I can tell you that I know who it’s gonna be. We are in the middle of writing it right now,” Brownell revealed in March 2024.

What to Expect in Season 4

As said earlier, the Bridgerton sibling that will take the lead in Season 4 has yet to be revealed. There are still several siblings that the show has yet to focus on. However, it would make sense that Benedict Bridgerton would lead in the upcoming installment. Since the character’s love story with Sophie was already delayed, to make way for Colin and Penelope.

Hints dropped back in February 2024 during the sneak peek event also seem to suggest that Benedict will take center stage in Season 4. Thompson has described his character in Season 3 as uncertain about his identity. In Season 2, Benedict’s pursuit to study art was also cut short after he learned that Anthony bought his spot in the Academy. Since Season 1, Benedict has been seen as lost and trying to find himself.

Aside from Benedict, Eloise Bridgerton may also become the next lead. Eloise’s friendship with Penelope also plays a big part in Season 3. Eloise discovered that Penelope was Lady Whistledown in Season 2, setting her up as a potential “villain” in Season 3. Season 3, would see her forming an unexpected friendship with Cressida Cowper and eventually reconciling with Penelope as well.

Fans shouldn’t rule out a possible Francesca-centric story for the Season either. Her story would be based on the book, “When He Was Wicked.” She had already made her society debut, also setting her up as a potential lead for Season 4. This is especially if Season 3 shows her courtship, which was described in the book as quick, with John Stirling.

Season 4 would introduce Francesca’s new love, Michael Stirling years after her marriage to John.

What Else to Expect

As for possible shakeups? Brownell told Refinery29 that there wouldn’t be much. However, Brownell didn’t rule out the possibility of Bridgerton Season 4 being different from the books.

“I am really not trying to shake things up too much, I really believe in the vision of the show,” said Brownell.

“I really want to serve the stories and the books the best way possible,” Brownell continued. “It just naturally felt like, for Penelope and Colin, it made sense to lean into romantic comedy tropes. So this season does have a bit more humor in it and it has the awkward banter. So that’s something that will feel slightly elevated in terms of being different from last season.”

Bridgerton Season 4 Release Date Speculation

For Bridgerton Season 4, filming is expected to start in London in June under the working title “Vauxhall.” Brownell confirmed that production had already begun in April 2024. So it’s anyone’s guess when Bridgerton Season 4 will come on the streamer. Our best guess is mid-2025.

“We actually don’t know when it’s gonna drop,” Brownell also told Refinery29. “We’re still making sure that we write the best possible script that we can before we start production. But we’re really thrilled with what we’ve been working on. So hold out hope!”

For now, fans can rewatch the first two seasons and the upcoming third season of Bridgerton on Netflix.
