A few years back, a team of dedicated fans decided to create a brand new game from the ground up for the Sega Genesis. This game eventually became the hit RPG Pier Solar. The team behind the game, WaterMelon Co, has since started work on new retro video game projects on their website Magical Game Factory, which allows their fans to fund games they are currently developing as well as vote on options on how the game might end up like.
Now WaterMelon Co. is taking to Kickstarter to get funding to bring their Sega Genesis game Pier Solar into the HD world. If they reach the desired funding of $139,000 they will recreate the game with beautiful HD graphics for the Sega Dreamcast, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and Linux. They are currently sitting at just under $100,000 with 19 days to go. At this stage in funding, there is a pretty decent chance the game will get funded. If funding is fully successful, WaterMelon Co. has a goal of releasing the HD version for the new platform by December 2013.
I had the distinct pleasure of being able to buy the Sega Genesis version 3 years ago when it was in development. This was a very fun RPG game with very impressive graphics and amazing music to it. I am personally planning on getting the Dreamcast version myself when this Kickstarter is fully finished. If you like retro RPGs, I recommend looking at their Kickstarter page and at their game.
