Liam Neeson Attended AA Meetings to Prepare for ‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’

Liam Neeson attended Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings for his role in new crime movie A Walk Among the Tombstones.

Neeson plays a former heavy-drinking private investigator and the role involved detailing his character’s struggle to stay sober with the help of his AA colleagues.

Neeson was so determined to nail the part that he arranged with organizers of the global support group to allow him to observe meetings in New York and Los Angeles.

He tells British magazine Radar, “I went to quite a few AA meetings in L.A. and New York. I went to some big meetings, where there were just five or six people, witnessing these incredibly heroic acts where people get up and tell a horrendous story about their relationship with drugs or alcohol, and people in the room understand it… I just observed. But I was touched by the experiences.”

In March, Neeson revealed he has given up alcohol after hitting the bottle following the death of his wife Natasha Richardson in a skiing accident in 2009.
