Paul Reubens Set to Return as Pee-Wee Herman in New Film
Paul Reubens is set to reprise his role as suited man-boy Pee-wee Herman in a new movie.
The 62-year-old originated the zany character in 1980’s Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie and went on to star as Herman in TV movies and series in the 1980s and 1990s. He then transitioned to the big screen and starred in Tim Burton’s directorial debut Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.
A third feature film has been in the works since 2010 and now Reubens reveals the project is moving forward with director Judd Apatow on board to produce.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, the actor said, “I was hoping that I could make this huge announcement tonight, but it’s a week away, I think, from being announced… We’ve hired a director, but I can’t say who it is…”
The movie is slated to begin filming in February.
