Sam Smith Leads 2015 Grammy Awards Nominations

British soul sensation Sam Smith looks set to dominate the 2015 Grammy Awards after scoring five nods in the main list of nominations ahead of the Album of the Year shortlist unveiling on Friday night.

The singer’s hit track “Stay With Me” will do battle for Record of the Year, going up against Sia for “Chandelier,” Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX with “Fancy,” Taylor Swift for “Shake It Off” and newcomer Meghan Trainor, who lands a mention for her debut single “All About That Bass.”

The same contenders, with the exception of Azalea, will also face off for Song of the Year, with Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” replacing “Fancy.”

“Stay With Me” is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance, while Smith’s In The Lonely Hour will go head-to-head with Coldplay (Ghost Stories), Miley Cyrus (Bangerz), Ariana Grande (My Everything), Katy Perry (Prism) and Ed Sheeran (X) for Best Pop Vocal Album.

His fifth nod comes in the Best New Artist category, where he faces stiff competition from Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark and Haim.

Meanwhile, Azalea picks up her third nomination for Best Rap Album for The New Classic.

The first wave of nominations was unveiled early on Friday, with the main list announced via Twitter throughout the day.
