‘The Leftovers’ Adds Regina King as Series Regular

We may not have a premiere date yet (or much other information outside of location) when it comes to The Leftovers, but we now have one more hint at season 2’s details with the news of Regina King’s addition to the cast.

The Leftovers is taking its sweet time coming back to HBO, thanks to some major re-vamping that the series is being forced to do after telling the whole book’s story in one season. The cast and location will be all mixed up when we return (more on that below) and we’ll also see a good bit of the phenomenal Regina King.

According to Deadline, King has signed on to play Erika Murphy, “a doctor who runs the local urgent care in the town. She is married with two kids.”

The seasoned actress is currently starring in the ABC drama series American Crime.

What we know about the series so far is that a bunch of the cast was cut, but Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon are all expected to return. Michael Gaston, Annie Q., Max and Charlie Carver, Amanda Warren and Emily Meade may return to guest star in the new season.

We also know that this season will not take place in the fictional town of Mapleton, NY, but instead will shift to a currently unnamed town in Texas, while production will move to the very real Austin, Texas.

Let us know your guesses and theories about what’s going on in season 2 of The Leftovers below (because your guess is as good as ours).
