‘Beauty and the Beast’ Casts Ewan McGregor as Lumiere
The upcoming live adaptation of Beauty and the Beast has finally found its Lumiere.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor is “in final negotiations” to play the outspoken candelabra in Disney’s live-action version of the tale as old as time. McGregor has some experience with singing, having performed in 2001’s Moulin Rouge, opposite Nicole Kidman. No word on whether or not he’ll need to brush up on his French as well.
As most of you know, Lumiere is a maitre d’ at the Beast’s castle who was turned into a candelabra when the castle was cursed by the witch. The rest of the Beast’s staff was affected by the spell as well, leading to a castle filled with animate objects and the rest is history.
Bill Condon is directing the movie and the cast is shaping up to be quite impressive with Emma Watson as Belle, Luke Evans as Gaston, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Kevin Kline as Maurice , Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts and Tony Award winner Audra McDonald as Garderob.
Beauty and the Beast is scheduled to hit theaters March 17, 2017.
