NBC Holding Open Auditions for Role of Dorothy in ‘The Wiz Live!’

NBC has announced that they’ll be holding an open casting call to find the next starlet to play the lead role of Dorothy Gale in their upcoming special The Wiz Live!.

The network chose the classic Broadway play as it’s next musical to get the live treatment and is now looking for the special girl who can once again bring the role of Dorothy Gale to life. The young woman cast will have some serious shoes to fill, with powerhouses Diana Ross and Stephanie Mills having taken on the role in their youths.

As if that weren’t enough pressure, The Wiz Live!’s Dorothy will star opposite the The Wiz‘s original Dorothy, Stephanie Mills. Mills recently signed on to play Auntie Em in the holiday special.

The casting call is set for Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Telsey + Co., 311 W. 43rdSt., 10th Floor in Midtown Manhattan. Sign-in begins at 9 a.m sharp, so if you’re going to audition be there early!

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (The Sound of Music Live!, Peter Pan Live!) serve as executive producers. Kenny Leon will direct with Harvey Fierstein providing new written material.

The Wiz Live! will air on NBC Thursday, Dec. 3.
