Common, Ne-Yo and Elijah Kelly Join ‘The Wiz Live!’
Three more musical powerhouses have joined the cast of NBC’s The Wiz Live!
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, it was announced that Grammy winner Ne-Yo, Oscar and Grammy winner Common and movie musical alum Elijah Kelley (Hairspray, Rome & Jewel, Lee Daniels’ The Butler) have joined the cast of NBC’s The Wiz Live!, playing the Tinman, the Gatekeeper and Scarecrow, respectively.
In addition to the newly announced trio, The Wiz Live! has built an impressive cast that currently includes newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy; Queen Latifah as The Wiz; Mary J. Blige as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West; David Alan Grier as The Cowardly Lion; Uzo Aduba as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South; Amber Riley as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North and the original production’s Dorothy, Stephanie Mills, as Auntie Em.
No word yet if this cast is on board for the forthcoming Broadway revival of the show, which is set to open in the 2016-17 season.
Ease on down the road when The Wiz Live! airs on NBC, Thursday, Dec. 3.
