Fifty Shades of Grey Wine Review: A Perfect Blend of Fandom and Wine

Fifty Shades

Inspired by the rather “intense” relationship between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey from the Fifty Shades books and films, the Fifty Shades of Grey Wine (Red Satin and White Silk) promise fans and wine lovers an equally thrilling adventure. Personally crafted by series author E.L. James, these wines are the perfect blend of naught and nice.

I was a bit skeptical when I first received a bottle of each for review, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed each of these – especially the Red Satin (a red blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah – along with hints of black cherry, coca powder and clove spice) – which was my favorite. This one had been aged for 36 months in a combination of new French oak barrels, neutral barrels and tanks.

I prefer red wine to white, though I could taste a hint of butterscotch mixed with fruit with White Silk that I absolutely loved. White Silk is actually a blend of Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented cool, under 50 degrees fahrenheit, and aged in stainless steel to preserve its delicate and rich character, this wine has a refreshing sweetness to it without being too rich.

For those that have read 50 Shades of Grey or seen the films, they know that wine plays an important role in the story – which makes these wines a rather subtle yet flirty present for your crush. Just because Valentine’s Day has passed, it doesn’t mean that a special little something for your crush or significant other wouldn’t be a nice gesture. And if you’re not a fan of the series, it doesn’t take away from the fact that this is simply delicious wine.

The wine retails for $17.99 a bottle or you can buy the gift set of both the Fifty Shades of Grey White Silk and Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin for $45.99, and they can both be purchased online.
