We’re Drinking Like Jessica Jones for the New Season

Bevin Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones drinks. She drinks a lot….and its mostly whiskey. So to prep for the new season, out now on Netflix, Bevin headed over to Hells Kitchen to a local spot called Lilly’s Craft and Kitchen to get some suggestions on what might be a good whiskey to drink while you binge the new season.

First up Wild Turkey 101: This is a Kentucky premium bourbon, richly-flavoured concoction with a mellowness that belies its high strength. Long and spicy with 50.5% Yea, it packs a bunch

Next was Jim Bean Double Oak: is aged in in not one, but two, new charred-oak barrels. So it has all the classic sweetness and flavors of Jim Beam White Label, but with added spice. 43% This one didn’t burn like Wild Turkey so it went down pretty smooth.

Basil Hayden‘s was actually poured over ice, mostly for Bevin’s sake. We were instructed that most whiskeys/bourbons are meant to be consumed warm and sipped. However, this is Jessica Jones and Jessica Jones does not sip. She jugs. Basil Hayden’s is one of the four bourbons in the Jim Beam, Small Batch Collection and bottled at a much lighter 80 proof, intended for easy drinking. But who wants easy?

At this point you’re probably wondering if we were gonna bring Jameson to the table. Everybody knows Jameson right? The answer is yes BUT we broke out a new one called Jameson Caskmates Edition: IPA. This IPA Caskmates is the second edition of this line of whiskeys aged in former beer casks. This one features an Irish India pale ale from Franciscan Well Brewery in Cork, Ireland. The brewery ages their beer in former Jameson whiskey casks then sends these barrels back to Jameson. These beer barrels are used to finish aging the whiskey. Does it taste like a cross between whiskey and IPA? Nope. Though to be fair, we are starting to understand Jessica a lot better after our 4th round.

Last and certainly Bev’s favorite was Barking Irons Applejack Brandy. Its 100 proof, made with 100 percent New York apples, brewed in Brooklyn and gave Jacob and Bev pause after shooting that one back. Jessica Jones should try it. We think she’d dig it.

Want to try some of these yourself? If you happen to be in New York, head to Lilly’s Craft and Kitchen on 9th ave between 46th and 47th street.

We want to thank Jacob and them for having us! We’ve got a new favorite brandy and drinking partner out of our visit. ; )
