‘Captain Marvel 2’ Is Officially in the Works!

Captain Marvel 2

It’s official! Carol Danvers is coming back to the big screen!!

Captain Marvel 2 is officially in the works. However, the original creative team is not returning. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck co-wrote and directed the first Captain Marvel film, but won’t be joining the crew for the sequel. Megan McDonnell from Disney+’s WandaVision is in the final negotiations to write the script for the much-awaited film. While WandaVision is McDonnell’s first major work, we have high hopes for her script in Captain Marvel 2, which will take place in the present day.

The writing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Marvel days aren’t over, though. They are currently in talks to possibly direct a new Disney+ series, but little info is available on what it be. We’re curious and excited to find out, though!

Captain Marvel and Where Captain Marvel 2 is Heading

Captain Marvel was the first female-centered film from Marvel Cinematic Universe and earned $1.1 billion worldwide in the box office. Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, who fights against two alien races – the Skrulls and the Krees – and becomes one of the most powerful superheroes in MCU. Although there are many changes to the crew, Larson is set to return to the screens reprising her role as Danvers.

With a female lead and a female writer, Marvel is reportedly also looking to bring on a female director. There are no reports yet on who is in discussion (or if there’s anyone specific in mind). Information on Captain Marvel 2 is scarce, but they are looking at a release in 2022. Disney has already reserved three different dates in 2022 in February, July, and October.

Yes, we know…. two whole years. But, in the meantime, there will be several other Marvel Universe releases to keep us busy in 2020 and 2021.

What do you think the writers will bring to the screen in Captain Marvel 2? Let us know your thought and theories in the comments below.
