Disney Announces That Artemis Fowl is Now Getting a Disney + Release

News broke today that one of Disney’s highly anticipated 2020 film releases is heading to a Disney+ release instead! That’s right, Artemis Fowl is going to first be seen by fans in the comfort of their own homes vs a theater later this year. This news comes alongside many other films being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disney+ already added Frozen 2 and Onward to its streaming service – ahead of its originally projected timeline. Those are in addition to some other great movies and series’ to indulge in during the quarantine.

President of Content & Marketing, Ricky Strauss, had this to say about bringing the premiere of Artemis Fowl to Disney+.

“With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of Artemis Fowl on Disney+. Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years. It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup.”

The film is based upon the novel, of the same name, by Eoin Colfer.

We’re excited that the release was allowed to go to Disney+, because we were really looking forward to seeing the film! Of course, few things beat the theater experience – but we’re playing it safe right now and staying home. So what a treat for us to enjoy!

There’s no specific date yet, but when we find out, we’ll share that with you. It’s anticipated that the release will be late spring or early summer, so we shouldn’t have too long to wait.

Until Artemis Fowl hits the streaming service, you can stream many other incredible options on Disney +.
