Top Gun: Maverick   (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theaters nationwide on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Summary: In Top Gun: Maverick, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) has for 30 years served his country but has done it his way, as one of the Navy’s top aviators, pushing the envelope as a test pilot. Maverick has been able to dodge the advancement in rank that would ground him until now. Maverick is back where he started, and he is still flying by the air tower, rank be damned.

What to Watch For: The cast includes Val Kilmer, reprising his role as ‘Iceman,’ Jennifer Connelly as an old flame from Maverick’s past, Jon Hamm as Maverick’s new commander, and Miles Teller as a connection to Maverick’s days at Top Gun.

Word on the Street: The film is at an incredible 96% on Rotten Tomatoes with over 130 film critic reviews.

My Take: I plan on seeing this film on the biggest movie screen I can find. Most of the stunts in the film were shot in actual fighter jets, making the action sequences seem incredibly real.

What to Watch For: The voice cast from the TV series are back, with H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schaal, Dan Mintz, John Roberts, Aziz Ansari, Zach Galifianakis, Gary Cole, and Kevin Kline.

Word on the Street: This is the last film that the late legendary animator Dale Baer worked on. Baer worked on films such as Tarzan (1999), Chicken Little (2005), and Winnie the Pooh (2011).
