The Boys Season 4 Will Not Be the Last

The Boys executive producer-showrunner Eric Kripke said the show isn’t going to end with the fourth season. Kripke confirmed the plans to film more seasons of The Boys around 2024. Kripke said in a tweet back in February 2023, preparing for the season four finale, that it wasn’t going to be the series finale.

“‘Cause you’re asking! We’ve been shooting since late August. I’m here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more! Most importantly, S4 premiere…at some point in the discernible reality,” tweeted Kripke.

What Happened in The Boys Season 3?

In Season 3, Victoria Neuman was elected US Vice President, paving the way for Homelander to become the CEO of Vought International.

Season 3 also saw the start of Homelander losing his hold over the Seven and his reality. This left The Boys, led by the Butcher, to face Homelander and put an end to the chaos he’s created.

Kripke confirmed that the upcoming season will focus on Homelander and Butcher’s conflict over Ryan. Speaking with Collider, Kripke said he sees Homelander and Butcher as parallels of each other.

“Both Butcher and Homelander have very good reasons to fight over Ryan because the stakes could not be higher,” said Kripke. “If Ryan goes Homelander’s way and then there’s two Homelanders in the world, then that’s a nightmare for the planet. If Butcher can get Ryan into the light, then that’s probably actually the best weapon they have against Homelander. It’s always been a show about family and so much of season three was about fathers, so I think it makes sense that season four is about sons.”

Kripke also hinted that Kimiko will be playing a key role in the upcoming season. Kripke told Screenrant that Kimiko’s storyline is one of his favorites.

“You’re really watching her blossom as a personality and really starting to express her own agency,” said Kripke.

“For so much of Kimiko’s life, she was doing what other people wanted. It was really important to me that even though she might not be speaking literally, she really has a voice and she really has a point of view and a perspective. It’s a blast to do it,” said Kripke.

The Boys Season 4 Cast

The core cast of The Boys is the same for season four. This includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Antony Starr as Homelander, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro, Tomer Capone as Frenchy, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett, Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman, and Cameron Crovetti as Ryan.

Simon Pegg returns to season four as Hughie’s dad and Rosemarie Dewitt is cast as Hughie’s mom. Valorie Curry will be playing Firecracker and Susan Heyward as Sister Sage. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Rob Benedict, and Elliot Knight are also joining the cast in undisclosed roles.

It’s uncertain if Dominique McElligott will be returning to season four as Queen Maeve. Jensen Ackles is speculated to return as Soldier Boy, with the Supernatural star saying he’s willing to reprise the role.

Potential Recasting?

When it comes to characters like Black Noir, Kripke hinted to CBR at a recasting. But here’s the kicker: The recast will be played by the same actor. Nathan Mitchell played Black Noir in the show.

“If we’re going to play and remix the character, I think that everyone’s seen a very stoic version of Black Noir so if they were going to do something new, I think it would be fun to go the opposite direction,” said Kripke.

“I think contrast is really interesting wherever you’re dealing with characters,” Mitchell told CBR. “And the core of Black Noir, for me, was always the contrast. The notion of, you have this super intense killer, right, who’s menacing and scary and threatening, and then, like, he talks to cartoons. He has imaginary friends, he’s really soft and sensitive.”

The Boys Season 4 Release Date

On February 22, Prime Video finally announced the The Boys Season 4 premiere date, which will be June 13. The upcoming fourth season, which is comprised of eight episodes in total, will debut with three episodes on June 13, with the season finale set to air on July 18.

Filming on Season 4 wrapped in April 2023; however, last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes did cause a delay in the show’s return.

In the interim, fans can tune into the animated spinoff, The Boys: Diabolical, on Amazon Prime. There’s also the new spinoff, Gen V, which debuted in September 2023. Gen V showcases younger superheroes in conflict with each other. Originally named The Boys Presents: Varsity, the events of Gen V are linked with the fourth season of The Boys.

If you enjoyed the spinoff, the good news is that Gen V has already been renewed for a second season.

“There’s definitely a crossover and we’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in season three hand off to the first season of Varsity,” Kripke told Deadline at the time before the title was changed to Gen V. “Like there’s a presidential campaign happening in the background of that season and there’s certain things that are happening at the school that are both in reaction to season three of The Boys.”

The franchise has also produced a lot more content on Twitter and Youtube. This includes two short films starring The Butcher in September 2020 and 2022. There is also the web series Seven on 7 and an Audible podcast, Deeper and Deeper starring The Deep and his wife Cassandra.
