Emily in Paris Is Renewed for a Fourth Season

The show follows Emily Cooper, a Chicago native who moves to Paris. Emily is looking to get promoted in social media marketing. All the while dealing with her love life, new friends, and career adjustments in fashionable outfits.

Netflix renewed Emily in Paris for a fourth season just ahead of the show’s Season 3 premiere. The streaming platform actually ordered the show’s renewal for seasons three and four in its announcement in January 2022 alongside its star Lily Collins. So, this means production for both seasons was done back-to-back.

According to Variety, filming for season three was done in France in 2022, with Season 3 dropping in December of that year. Season 4 was set to start filming in the late summer or early fall of 2023. However, as mentioned above, it will begin on January 22, 2024, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have now ended.

What Happened in Season 3

The events of season three left fans with a lot of questions that hopefully would be addressed in the fourth season. The Season 3 finale saw Camille and Gabriel breaking up at the altar, with Emily and Alfie also breaking up after Camille’s revelations. There’s also the big reveal of Camille being pregnant.

In December 2022, the show’s creator Darren Star told Entertainment Tonight that Camille’s pregnancy could complicate things between Gabriel and Emily. However, Star said we won’t see Camille giving birth anytime soon.

“It’s very clear in Season 3 that it’s a big dream,” Star referred to Gabriel. “He wants to be a father and I think he was excited and is excited about the idea of fatherhood, but you know, our show doesn’t move that quickly. One season really covers a couple of months…We’ve had three seasons and maybe six months of actual time, so I’m not sure we’re going to actually see a baby in Season 4. But I think that we’re going to have to deal with the prospect of the baby.”

Emily in Paris Season 4 Cast

For Emily in Paris Season 4, it’s safe to say many of its main cast will be coming back. This includes Collins, Ashley Park as Mindy, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, Camille Razat as Camille, Philippine Leroy Beaulieu as Sylvie, Samuel Arnold as Julien, and Bruno Gouery as Luc. This also includes Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie, who ended things with Emily after he found out about her feelings for Gabriel when Camille revealed them.

Other characters that are expected to return for Season 4 include Arnaud Binard as Laurent, Paul Forman as Nico, and Kevin Dias as Benoit.

Star confirmed to Deadline that Alfie will continue to be part of the show’s fourth season.

“I don’t think romantically he is in the picture. I don’t think that makes Alfie out of the show. He certainly has a reason to be in Paris, and he’s working with Gabriel. I feel like all of our characters are still connected, just in a more complicated way,” said Star.

Meanwhile, one character who might not return for Season 4 is Madeline, played by Kate Walsh. Madeline in season three shut down the branch and returned to Chicago. However, don’t rule out Madeline possibly making an appearance in Season 4.

A character whose fate seems to be up in the air is Camille’s Greek lover Sofia in Season 3, played by Melia Kreling. Star has mentioned her, teasing her possible return.

What to Expect in Season 4

During Netflix’s June 2023 Tudum event, Collins teased what fans can expect from Emily in Paris Season 4. The actress brought up the questions fans were left with from season three, such as whether Alfie is still heartbroken or whether Gabriel get his Michelin star.

But most importantly, “Will Emily and Gabriel finally get together?”

Collins also hints that Emily’s life will have “some unexpected twists” including a Roman holiday and some hard choices.

Complicated Relations Will Be a Theme in Season 4

Star also told TV Guide in June 2023 about what fans can expect for the coming season.

“Season 4 is going to be more about navigating complicated relationships; personal relationships and work relationships, and how they come into conflict with each other… Emily is still going to be working with Alfie, Gabriel, and Camille. Those work relationships are really fraught with emotional conflicts,” said Star.

In the Deadline interview, Star also touched on what would happen to Emily and Gabriel in Season 4.

“I think that a big question to think about the next season is, Emily didn’t come to Paris for romance, she came for a job, and I think they’re both in a different, more mature place in their lives, Emily and Gabriel, and definitely a more complicated place.”

When it came to Camille, Star said that she would likely continue co-existing, possibly staying in the same building. “They are all involved in each other’s lives, they are friends, they work together. They’re all very much tied together. But I just think there were some big unforeseen complications here, especially for Emily. And perhaps Emily-Gabriel is not meant to be, at least in the immediate future,” said the show’s creator.

Emily in Paris Season 4 Release Date Speculation

No word yet on when Emily in Paris Season 4 will come to Netflix. However, due to the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the delayed Season 4 production, the series won’t likely return until late 2024 at the earliest, or potentially 2025.

It also seems that more seasons of Emily in Paris would be expected. In the Deadline interview, Star said there are still more stories to tell.

“I definitely think the show has a life beyond next season,” said Star. “There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end.”

Fans can rewatch the first three seasons of Emily in Paris on Netflix.
