Fear the Walking Dead Returns for Season 8

Fear the Walking Dead is one of the spinoffs from The Walking Dead series, based on the comic by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. It takes place seven years before the events of The Walking Dead.

The spinoff premiered in 2015 and has enjoyed seven and a half seasons so far. Season 8 is the final season of Fear the Walking Dead, with the renewal coming around the same time as the announcement that it’s ending. Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Part 1 aired in May, with the trailer giving a preview of the final season released in March. However, given the timeframe of events, Season 8 saw a seven-year time jump, which brought the show into the current timeline of The Walking Dead.

Andrew Chambliss serves as the showrunner for Fear the Walking Dead. David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, and Gale Anne Hurd are its executive producers. Heather Cappiello and Michael E. Satrazemis directed the episodes, with writing by Chambliss, Kirkman, and Ian Goldberg.

Fear the Walking Dead Cast

As the show reaches its final stretch, it’s inevitable that some of the cast will come and go. Those expected to return for Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Part 2 include Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, Colman Domingo as Victor Strand, Ruben Blades as Daniel Salazar, Austin Amelio as Dwight, Christine Evangelista as Sherry, and Jenna Elfman as June Dorie.

Daniel Sharman is also returning for Season 8 Part 2 as Troy Otto. Jayla Walton as Dove may also return for the second half. As fans can recall, Dove was already present in the first half of the season.

Alycia Debnam-Carey might not be returning to the second half as Alicia Clark after what happened in Season 8 Part 1. Debnam-Carey announced her exit after Season 7. The same could be said for Lennie James as Morgan, who will not be returning for Season 8 Part 2. As is Zoey Merchant as Mo, Morgan’s adoptive daughter.

Fans shouldn’t be too sad about Morgan and Mo leaving the group, though. The father-daughter duo will likely be part of another The Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Even with the departures, fans are hoping that some new or incredibly familiar characters might make their appearances in the show.

Season 8 Part 2 Plot

Aside from deducing what could happen in the second half, the official synopsis for Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Part 2 reads:

“Now that Shrike and her influence are gone, Madison sets sights on transforming PADRE into the safe haven the old Stadium was meant to be. But in doing so the island becomes a target as well as a beacon as word of Madison and this land of resources spreads, attracting unwanted attention that puts PADRE back in peril and questions whether our heroes even deserve to save it.”

The first half of Season 8 saw Morgan leave the group with his daughter Mo to find Rick Grimes. This left Madison in charge of PADRE as she intends to turn the place into a sanctuary for survivors who need help. Madison was keen on helping the children she abducted on behalf of PADRE to locate their parents.

Fans can recall back in Season 4, the Dell Diamond Baseball Stadium was turned into a sanctuary for survivors until it caught the attention of the Vultures. This led to the Vultures destroying the place, with PADRE kidnapping Madison.

Meanwhile, fans are also hoping to learn what happened to Charlie, played by Alexa Nisenson, who got ill from radiation poisoning in Season 7. There’s also the question of what happened to Rabbi Jacob, played by Peter Jacobson, Sarah, played by Mo Collins, and Wendell, played by Daryl Mitchell.

What Else to Expect

Aside from the official synopsis, there are also new photos of the main characters for Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Part 2. The new photos also include a new addition to the zombies, adding to the stakes. In the trailer for Season 8 Part 2, Madison says, “This is how we survive” and is also faced with her old enemy Troy Otto, who is back with a vengeance.

The unveiling of the second half took place during the premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. It showed a glimpse of Troy’s return.

Troy is seen confronting Madison, his face evidently disfigured, a reminder of their violent history. This was in Season 7 when Madison bludgeoned him and left him for dead. Clearly, that’s not the case anymore as seen in the teasers.

Troy’s pursuit of PADRE becomes the main point of his return, along with reminders of their past. PADRE may be at risk due to Troy’s resurfacing.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Part 2 may see Troy once again face off against Madison. It’s unclear if there will be a definitive ending, or if it will hint at more adventures to come.

It’s possible that characters like Madison and Strand won’t be done quite yet even after the show ends.
