Val Kilmer Interested In Office?

Val Kilmer has successfully filled the shoes of Batman, Doc Holliday and Jim Morrison. Now he’s looking to step into a more political position.

The action star is contemplating following the lead of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura and running for governor of New Mexico. His home state will be electing a new leader in 2010 at the conclusion of Democrat Bill Richardson’s second term.

“I’m just looking for ways to be contributive,” he tells the AP, “and if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I’ll run.”

The actor admits he’s not a much of a politician—until the most recent election, he hadn’t voted since 1992—and is “not going to try to become one.”

Not unlike his Iceman in Top Gun, Kilmer has confidence in his electability.

“If I run,” he says, “I’m going to be the next governor.”

  1. He has a reputation for being a lot of trouble on the set. I’d hesitate to vote him into high office until he can prove that he can get along and show up on time.
