Inspired by her mother’s love of the piano, Shauna Burns began playing as a small child in her native home of Miami. By the time she was 15, she had discovered her own talent as a singer and was already composing. After moving west for college, Shauna found a whole new level of inspiration in the high deserts and mountains of Nevada and Utah. She poured her emotions into her music and began playing regularly at a coffee house in Salt Lake City. Shauna’s unique fusion of alternative rock, folk and Celtic sounds soon won fans and rave reviews. The die was cast: After graduating, Shauna began concentrating on her music full-time. After a year in Europe putting together her first collection of songs, she recorded “Every Thought.” The debut album, released under the record label Red Rock Music, LLC, is both intense and soothing, a complex blend of sounds and lyrics that resonates within the listener. “Music has always been there for me,” Shauna explains. “It’s been a close friend and teacher, drawing me in like this unexpected force, pulling me. It’s the journey, how I view everything around me. It comes from the purest place I’ve ever known.”
Enchanting is the first word that comes to mind when listening to Shauna Burn’s debut album, Every Thought. There is something so familiar yet so new and refreshing about her hypnotic voice. One could easily compare her to the greatness of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan with a Celtic sound similar to that of Nina Gordon.
Every Thought is home to twelve tracks that are all equally as strong and moving from beginning to end. From the haunting melody of “Ghosts and Vampires” to the elegant lyrics of “Castle in My Cloud” to the soothing sounds of “Hell”, her music flows as exquisitely written poetry.
Shauna claims to have found a whole new level of inspiration in the high deserts and mountains of Nevada and Utah. Perhaps these locations are what we should credit for providing her with such a passion which is evoked from her every song. Her music is timeless and elegant. The uniqueness of her lyrics paired with her uncanny ability to create magic with the piano, those listening to her music will find themselves under her spell.
There are a small number of artists who are able to convey pure emotion and inspire through an intense passion that emanates from his or her voice, Shauna is one of those artists. She draws you in, embraces you, and makes you feel as if you are apart of the journey of which her songs create.
From playing in at a coffee house in Utah to recording her debut album, Shauna Burns has brought her music forth to the world, offering us the same chance to experience the inspiration from her music that she has drawn from her life and her surroundings. It’s definitely a chance worth taking.
