Comedian and tv personality Chelsea Handler is teaming up with online streaming service Netflix to create a new online talk show.
The news comes just weeks before she wraps her long-running late night chat show Chelsea Lately, which will come to an end after a series of special installments on the E! network in August.
Handler’s deal also includes a one-off stand-up show for Netflix, and four “docu-comedy” specials, which will focus on the star learning about subjects such as politics and basketball.
She says in a statement:
“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move. I’m more excited than I’ve been in a while, and the team at Netflix is the most forward-thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages.”
The stand-up show, which will be taped in Chicago, Illinois this month, will air on Netflix in October . It will be followed by the four specials in 2015 and the talk show, which will begin in early 2016.
