‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Set to Start Filming This Month

AMC’s The Walking Dead has wrapped filming for the current season, but the series spinoff is set to begin filming within the next few days.

The new AMC series, tentatively titled Cobalt, will require no knowledge of The Walking Dead in order to watch as it will be a completely different story. The story will be based in Los Angeles, whereas The Walking Dead is set in Atlanta. “We want it to be a new show that can stand on its own,” Robert Kirkman, series EP and comics creator explained to EW. “You could watch The Walking Dead spinoff if you’ve never watched an episode of The Walking Dead and get a really great, rich, fulfilling experience out of it. It has to be a show that can stand on its own. I think that’s what we’ve accomplished, and we start filming in a couple of days. I’m really excited.”

As far as the casting for the new series, we know that Kim Dickens will be the female lead, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey will play her children, and Cliff Curtis will be the male lead.

The Walking Dead returns on February 8 at 9pm, and Cobalt is scheduled to premiere later this year.
